Growing Outward
March is Women’s History Month, a time to honor wisdom that’s often overlooked in our rush toward linear progress. The ancient Greeks understood this: they had Chronos, god of chronological time – always forward, measuring productivity – and Kairos, goddess of cyclical time – rhythms, seasons, essential work that happens in phases we can’t always see.
Walk-In has been in a Kairos phase. Building in ways that weren’t always visible.
Adding volunteers – our teams are larger and stronger than they’ve been in years. Tending to our systems. Supporting rest and clarity. Growing strong roots. Like the buds on trees that form in summer and stay protected through winter – not dormant, we are preparing.
We’re feeling ready to grow outward. Not rushing, but moving with intention. Strengthening our core, our collective, our communities close to home.
This past year has shown many of us that we can carry far more than we thought possible. We’ve proven our strength, time and time again. The paradox is that sustainable capacity requires both the heavy lifts AND the long pauses between them. You don’t build muscle just through lifting – you build it through the rest between sets, when your body repairs and grows stronger.
We’re all navigating this balance. Some have inner voices pushing too hard. Some have external forces demanding too much. One remedy, or so the wisdom goes: attune to wisdom within us and around us. Step back sometimes so others can step in. Model thriving where and when we can, and tend when we can’t. Let’s life but also build systems that create collective capacity rather than relying on individual heroics.
We’re a community of healers and caregivers. Walk-In exists because of this – because people show up, because individual wellbeing and collective wellbeing are woven together, because what each of us builds in our own spheres strengthens what we can all carry together.
The door is open. We’re here. Together, we’re growing even if we can’t quite see it yet.
