Walk-In “shouldn’t” exist – but last weekend, you showed me why we do, and why we must

Dear Community,

Presence, Possibility, and Partnership

It was wonderful connecting with so many of you last weekend at our event, “Resilient We Rise” – an intimate evening of reflection, healing sound, and shared vision. We grounded to presence, shared stories, and generated hope. We heard from each other about what matters most: accessibility, connection, and care without barriers.

For those who couldn’t attend, the spirit of that evening lives in the work we’re doing every day. The themes we explored together – about personal healing as a pathway for collective transformation, and about building guardrails alongside responding to crisis – these aren’t just ideas. They’re the foundation of how Walk-In has served this community for 56 years, and they’re guiding us into our future.

What we know is this: resilience isn’t about toughing it out alone. It is what happens through us when we show up as a community, again and again, especially when it’s hardest. Resilience is an undercurrent that connects us to a collective wisdom, and to a shared capacity for growth and progress across generations.

The Work Continues

As we prepare for a new fiscal year and shape a budget that will guide us, we’re acutely aware that the needs in our community continue to grow. The calls and complexities keep coming. Crisis doesn’t pause for planning cycles or fundraising campaigns. Every week, people walk through our doors – and into our virtual clinics – seeking immediate support. And every week, our volunteers show up to connect and respond.

This is what we do at Walk-In: we show up as part of a shared community. No appointments. No insurance. No barriers. Just support when it’s needed most.

The work we do is only possible because of your investments – continued investments in something bigger than ourselves. Your time. Your expertise. Your financial support. Your belief that accessible mental health care is a right, not a privilege.

Partner with Us

It is the season of asking – and for good reason. The needs in our community are urgent and real.

So, here’s what I ask of you:

If you’re ready to give, please give. Your financial support matters deeply and enables everything we do. You can give directly through our website. We need it, and we’re grateful.

And whether you give financially or not – partner with us as we begin writing our next chapter.

We’re in a process of imagining and building. Strategic planning. Visioning our future. Strengthening what works and expanding our capacity to meet growing need. We want to do this work with you.

Imagine with us: what becomes possible when we invest more deeply in what already works? What barriers do you see? What opportunities should we pursue? What does accessible mental health care look like in 5 years, 10 years, 56 more years?

Build with us toward that vision. Volunteer. Help us connect with new volunteers. Introduce us. Open doors. Share your expertise. Consider your networks. Use your voice and platform to advocate for our work. Show up and stay connected as we shape what’s next.

Help us in whatever ways feel genuine. Time. Connections. Ideas. Influence. Expertise. Presence. Partnership.

An Extended Invitation

At Resilient We Rise, we asked our community to partner with us – not just with one-time support, but with ongoing presence. That invitation is open and fully extended, and its impact potential is bigger than any single ask.

Together, we’re writing the next chapter of Walk-In.

Fifty-six years ago, this community made a bold choice to create something that shouldn’t exist according to conventional healthcare logic – and yet it does, and it works. That legacy belongs to all of us, and the future is ours to shape.

Now we’re being asked to invest more deeply in what already works, to scale our impact, to meet growing need with growing capacity – with all the resources we have to offer.

Partner with us. Rise up with us. Make Walk-In your own.

The door is open. Walk-In.

With gratitude,

Kate

P.S. – Ready to volunteer? Have ideas to share? Want to make a connection? Please reach out – we genuinely want to hear from you. Email me directly at kfischer@walkin.org or contact our office. And if we’re taking too long to reach back out to you, we might be lost in your spam folder – don’t wait for us.
