  • Walk-In Counseling Center recognizes the value of growing and supporting a diverse group of licensed mental health professionals to fill unmet community needs and improve the delivery of mental health services. In an effort to support diversity within the metropolitan Twin Cities mental health practitioner community, Walk-In is pleased to announce the 2025 Mental Health Licensing Diversity Award, with an emphasis on supporting early career professionals. Walk-In will select up to four license-eligible candidates to receive up to $2500 to fund the following: licensing preparation materials and workshops; licensing test fees; licensing fees; supervision towards licensure. Recipients are expected to volunteer at Walk-In during or after their licensure.

    Eligibility:

    All master’s level graduates and graduates-to-be of social work, counseling, psychology, or family therapy programs who are of diverse backgrounds are eligible to apply. Successful applicants will have a demonstrated financial need as well as a commitment to providing diversity-informed therapy.

    Application Process:

    To apply, please submit the following materials:  

    • Your résumé.
    • A cover letter that includes a personal statement addressing:
    1. What has influenced you to focus on issues of mental health and economic disparities;
    2. The ways in which you are committed to or have sought to train in and practice diversity-informed therapy;
    3. Your need to receive financial support for licensure training and licensure, and;
    4. Why you would be interested in volunteering at Walk-In Counseling Center.
    • A letter of recommendation from someone who knows your therapeutic work.
    • A transcript of your graduate work (can be an unofficial/personal copy).

    Applicants are interviewed by a couple of staff and board of Walk-In.
