  • Walk-In Counseling Center recognizes the value of growing and supporting a diverse group of licensed mental health professionals to fill unmet community needs and improve the delivery of mental health services.

In an effort to support diversity within the metropolitan Twin Cities mental  health practitioner community, Walk-In opened applications late last year for the 2024 Walk-In Counseling Center Licensing Diversity Award, with an emphasis on supporting early career professionals. Walk-In will select up to four license-eligible candidates to receive up to $2,500 to fund the following: licensing preparation materials; licensing preparation workshops; licensing test fees; licensing fees; and supervision towards licensure. Recipients will be expected to volunteer at Walk-In during or after their licensure.

    Eligibility:

All master’s level graduates and graduates-to-be of social work, counseling, psychology, or family therapy programs who are of diverse backgrounds are eligible to apply. Successful applicants will have a demonstrated financial need as well as a commitment to providing diversity-informed therapy.

    Application Process:

To apply, please submit the following materials to be considered.

    • Your résumé.
    • A cover letter that includes a personal statement addressing: What has influenced you to focus on issues of mental health and economic disparities; The ways in which you have sought to train in and practice diversity-informed therapy; and Why you would be interested in volunteering at Walk-In Counseling Center.
    • A letter of recommendation from someone who knows your therapeutic work.
    • A transcript of your graduate work (can be an unofficial personal  copy).

Applicants will be interviewed prior to selection. Applications should be sent to: licensuresupport@walkin.org.  Deadline for Submission:  February 16, 2024
