  • During April, we invited friends and supporters to send messages of thanks to the volunteers who make our work possible. Volunteer professional counselors, as well as volunteer receptionists, give generously of their time to provide free, no-appointment, anonymous counseling to the community.

Thank you to everyone who sent a message! Here are some of the notes we received:

Thank you so much for providing free counseling services to me. My counselor was great — I liked her very much and she said things that helped my situation. Thanks to all of your for offering your precious time to people in desperate need of help! What a gift you are to everyone! We appreciate you so much! — client

My counselor was very helpful! All of the staff I encountered were nice and friendly! It was my very first visit, and I’m really grateful you’re here, THANK YOU!!! — client

You are awesome! Once again, my counselor helped me so much, and I understand that she also gathered extremely helpful information from other staff that she attended at a meeting after speaking with me. She then followed up with an email providing many extremely helpful resources. That kind of sensitivity, research, and quick response meant so much to me. I so appreciate your valuable services at no cost to people in great need, and your presence in our community is a crucial and beautiful asset. — client

Thank you to all the fabulous counselors, consultants and receptionists that provide this immensely valuable service to the community. You start each clinic prepared to meet the needs of the callers or folks who stop by, not knowing what the issues might be ahead of time, whether or not it will be a quiet night or so busy you have to do shorter sessions to get everyone seen. You are amazing. Thank you. — former volunteer

Thank you for one more year of offering hope, comfort and solutions to people who need help right now. It is impossible to overstate how important WICC is in our community. — supporter

Kudos to all Walk-In staff and volunteers. To have professionals volunteer their time to offer their services is no small feat! Very impressive. Walk-In has been on the front line of community mental health since inception. Thank you! — former volunteer

I’m so grateful there was such a place as Walk-In back in the early ’80s. I had a lot of confusion and few ideas where to take it. Walk-In counselors walked me through more than one tough interlude. Good to know you’re still there, still doing this good work! — supporter

As someone who has lost family members who were not able to afford the mental health treatment they needed, I cannot thank you enough for the hours you have spent helping people cope with issues big and small. It is a heroic work that you are doing. Peace to you. — David Wallace-Jackson, Walk-In board member

I am profoundly touched by your ongoing support and effort you put in towards our organization here at Walk-in. Your dedication has made a significant impact and given hope to the lives of many vulnerable communities, families, and individuals . ‘We are all responsible for the effort, not the outcomes’ — and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for demonstrating such an act of kindness. — Francois Vang, MSW, LICSW, Walk-In board member

I am reaching out and let you know how incredible you’re doing as a volunteer for Walk-In Counseling Center. I understand that you are juggling life’s many compeating priorities and how special it is that you show up in service of our unique mission. Your willingness to dedicate your precious time and mental health talents in our community is remarkable. Thank you! As a volunteer who is part of a team consulting model, I commend you on ensuring that the needs of each client have been met, including follow-up appointments if the client needs them. You are the foundation of Walk-In and I thank you for all that you do. We can’t do this without you! — Kendra Allen Popov, Walk-In board member

I am writing to thank each of you for being a Walk-In Counseling Center volunteer. You make Walk-In what it is– there would be no Walk-In without the time, energy, and commitment you give to this wonderful organization. You touch the lives of each person who seeks mental health support through Walk-In, and in that way, you help make our entire community stronger and healthier. Walk-In’s strong reputation in the community is built on the service you provide. I am very grateful for your willingness to set aside one part of your busy lives to support Walk-In. Thank you! — Glenn Hirsch, Walk-In board president
