Training Description: This presentation will discuss normal sleep architecture, the underpinnings of sleep & circadian rhythms, & how internal clocks govern daily activities of living. A key focus will be learning resilience counter-measures to address sleep problems (too little or too much), as well as disruption in circadian rhythms using a number of standard behavioral “sleep medicine” interventions. The presentation will provide local and web-based resources for further study, and linkages to primary and specialty medical care for certain problems. There will be time for questions and discussion.
About the Presenter: Dr. Michael V. DeSanctis, PhD, LP, ABPP, DBSM is a licensed psychologist in MN and WI, certified in Behavioral Sleep Medicine, Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology in Counseling Psychology and Diplomate of the Board of Behavioral Sleep Medicine. He has 50 years of study and involvement in the mental health field. Retired from practice, he owns Positive Sleep Journeys PLLC, a company whose mission is education of the general public and health care professionals on the pivotal nature of sleep and body clocks in shaping daily wellness and mental health. Dr. DeSanctis has served as an Adjunct Instructor at Century College in the Continuing Health Education area, Normandale Community College, and Argosy University and previously held the appointment of Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychology, at St. Mary’s University of MN. His clinical interests include integrated health care, winter seasonal depression and behavior sleep medicine.
