Training March 14: Counseling clients from rural communities

Home » Training March 14: Counseling clients from rural communities
  • February 14, 2023February 15, 2023
  • Presented by Emily Krekelberg

    Training Description:

With low commodity prices, high debt loads, and challenging weather in recent years, farmers are experiencing a high amount of stress. It can be challenging to know how to approach someone under a lot of stress, especially if we don’t have a lot of understanding about their perspective. In this session, Emily will review the nature of farm stress and the cultural implications of mental health in agricultural communities, provide strategies for communicating with stressed farmers, and review available resources.

    About the Presenter:

Emily Krekelberg grew up on her family’s dairy farm near Le Sueur, Minnesota. She works for University of Minnesota Extension as the Extension Educator for Farm Safety & Health. Her work focuses on grain bin safety, livestock safety, tractor safety, farmer mental health, and suicide prevention. A passion of Emily’s is advocating for wellness in agriculture. She has a BS in Animal Science and a Masters in Agricultural Education from the University of Minnesota.

    Location: Online on Zoom.
