Walk-In Counseling is a great place for masters and doctoral students to complete clinical field placements and practicums in preparation for a career in clinical mental health. A field placement or practicum at Walk-In Counseling is a true multicultural counseling experience. Our counselors work with a wide range of clients in terms of age, ethnicity/culture/race and presenting issues, typical of an urban mental health clinic environment.
Counselors at Walk-In Counseling see all clients free of charge, regardless of whether or not they have insurance. We do not accept insurance, nor do we diagnose clients using DSM V or ICD 10 coding. Students completing their field placement or practicum at Walk-In Counseling are able to focus on their clients and their developing clinical skills in an environment without these constraints.
We accept between 12-15 clinical year master and doctoral level students each year. Preferable intern/practicum candidates will have a minimum of five years experience in the mental health or social service fields, and be available for both day and evening hours.
Students who are not yet in their clinical year might consider volunteering as a receptionist.
